The Lockdown Diary - DAY 104
Posted 6th July 2020 at 13:12 by Cormack
Now we're out of lockdown (I think?), does this thread need an asterisk?
Quiet Sunday, there was cleaning going on upstairs and a postponed CHIP DAY! oddly never took off (I did peel - new peeler with the mandolin(e) is excellent - and chop a few but there was no real queue) to the point that I had a quiet day in the kitchen. I made cookies on #103 and they were eaten by this morning and made Lion Bar brownies today which might have been the best batch I've ever made - held together nicely but practically liquid to the bite.
Forgot how much I love routine baking, lockdown has rekindled an awful lot of stuff and some of it good. It's a shame it took a global pandemic to rekindle that good - my cousin who died a couple of weeks ago it transpires was recorded as a COVID death as it was at the very least a sizeable contributory factor. A reminder that for all the changes ongoing, this hasn't gone away, no matter how 'worried' politicians are in their lukewarm responses.
Recommended listening - Gerry Rafferty, Baker Street
Not sorry for the obvious gag, surprised I haven't posted this before, a classic and of course, it was Raphael Ravenscroft.
Stay well
