Going back to the Industrial Revolution, a blog is therefore a Lancastrian word for protective footware. "Like putting a mule in blogs" was an old Lancastrian phrase for being over-cautious - Crompton's Spinning Mule (an example of which survives today still in Bolton) was particularly robust and needed no footwear at all to preserve it, hence over-cautious... |
